Dejan Kelhar, the first foreigner transfer of Gabala prior to the 2012-2013 season, talks to gabalafc.az about what he heard of Azerbaijan and his new club. The Slovenian defender also shares his first impressions on transferring to Gabala:
How do you know about Gabala city and Azerbaijan?
-- Of course I heard. I heard first time when some players from Slovenia left to the Azerbaijan league, and also I checked some more information last weekend from Internet. Azerbaijan, also Gabara is a place worth to go for living and collaboration.
Have you ever heard of our domestic football clubs and the country?
-- Few years ago, one or two players that I know made transfer to your domestic league, so I first time heard about your teams. Now when an offer came from Gabala, I check and asked people really a lot about the city and the club. All answers were positive!
You chose just FC Gabala. But why not other any club?
-- Honestly, had few more options from Turkey and Ukrain league, and I was long time in contact with them. But then Gabala came with concrete offer and I decided to sign contract. Besides, the club has big ambition in future. Also the infrastructure is of those projects that I was very interested in. That is why I came to Gabala.
Did you get about the targets of Gabala?
-- Of course I heard about the ambitions of the club. Sure it will not be easy, but we can do big things on the way of those targets with passion and good work.
How could you be helpful on these targets as a part of Gabala?
-- First of all i do not like to talk about me. The people that bring me to the club now how I can help the team. But everyone in any club or other side of activity can do something in their positions. As a player, I also can do something and will do my bests for Gabala. In football one player is not important, but a team is powerful. I hope we all will be a good powerful team.
