Gabala ended the home match of the UEFA Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round in 1:1 with Jagiellonia. Head coach Roman Grigorchuk introduced five new transfers, including three overseas players.

The pace of the game started by mutual efforts to hold spaces in the midfield. The first threat came from the home side as Elvin Mammadov surged from the left setting up Filip Ozobic. The Croatian converted to Javier Hernandez and the latter’s pass to the box could not find anyone from Gabala. Shortly after, the opponents’ long-range shot was another occasion on the show. And the visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Taras Romanchuk rose up to head in after a corner.

The goal prompted the red-black side that seem as a matter of time before Javid Huseynov’s telegraph found Andy Halliday failed on his header from a close position.

Going more into the control over the game, the hosts gave another trouble to the opponents as Javid cut through some opponent defenders and traveled up into the box. He crossed to Ozobic failed on the target with a 22-meter drive.

Grigorcuk introduced Famoussa Kone to strengthen up the forward line that worked out for some more troubles. Javier Hernandez’s header from a promising position was denied by defenders.  Just a minute later, Ilgar Gurbanov kicked the ball from the right corner of the box hit the post and the returned ball found Steeven Jozeph-Monroz to get back in the net – 1:1. This was the new transfer’s first goal for Gabala. Later on, Kone fell down in the box but the referee kept the game going. Monroz capitalized on the lost ball but saw his shot tipped wide.

The second half developed more pulsating and the red-black squad were evident leader as Jagiellonia were mostly baking on counter attacks. But our goal keeper Dmytro Bezotosniy came one-one-one with an opponent and gave a great save to his team denying a Poland footballer.

At times, Gabala pushed harder to go one ahead before the opponents set up a counter attack on 81 minutes. And Bezotosniy gave another save to his teammates.

Although some many efforts from both sides, the score held on with 1:1 up to the final whistle. The return game is fixed to the next Thursday to kick-off at 10:30 pm. AZT.
