First tie – 1:1

Gabala took the return match against Jagiellonia with 2:0 within the 2nd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Europa League. After 1:1 tie at home last week, Roman Grigorchuk’s team are progressing into the next 3rd Qualyfying Round where they will face Panathinaikos (Greece).

The red-black squad came on the field only for scoring to survive from going out of the contest. After some period of mutual attacks, Gabala pushed harder led to an opening goal by Ilgar Gurbanov. This was the debut goal by the new transfer.

Keeping up the lead for a long period, Gabala gave some troubles with long-drive shots by Vojislav Stankovic. In the closing minutes of the half, Jagiellonia looked speeding up their inroads in to the Gabala defense, but Dmytro Bezotosniy held on.

The Bialystok team looked after the restart setting up two threats when Bezotosniy denied an opponent effort before Stanikovic deflected Sherida.

Then Filip Ozobic went too close to scoring coming one-on-one with the opponent keeper but failed to reach to his teammate’s telegraph.

While the home side were all out for attacks, Gabala could set up counter attack but Andy Halliday’s long-range shot was absorbed by the keeper.

At times, Jagiellonia looked lost in their back line and Gabala set up more counter attacks led to Javid Huseynov’s superb pass found Ozobic to finish clinically – 2:0.

Now Gabala are going to the first tie of the next round to be held in Greece on Thursday, July 27.
