Azerbaijan taekwondo team, including SC Gabala”s Mahammad Mahammadov, won the World Cup in Mexico capital city, Mexico.
In the A group, the squad took 2 early victories beating teams from Belgium and Uzbekistan, respectively, 57:31 and 31:11 to hit the semifinal. They beat Korea 48:30 progressing into the final where they earned a comfortable victory over Iran (42:23) striking the top award. Korea and Russia sit 3rd.
The Azerbaijan team was led by the domestic taekwondo federation”s vice president Niyamaddin Pashayev to the championship organized by the World Taekwondo Federation. Head coach Rza Mahmandost and senior coach Elnur Amanov gave a chance making up the staff to Milad Beigi Harchegani, Said Guliyev, Aykhan Taghizadeh, Sina Bahrami, Mahammad Mammadov and Radik Isayev.
The winner side are returning back to Azerbaijan on Monday, December 14.
