Sotomayor ended with silver medal

Gabala boxer Lorenzo Sotomayor finished the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil, with a silver medal after losing to Fazliddin Gaibnazarov from Uzbekistan by 1:2 (28:29, 28:29, 29:28). With this result, he made history for the boxing in Azerbaijan as the first challenger reaching up to the Olympic final.

This was his first-ever defeat in the Olympic Games. Challenging for the Azerbaijan national team, the 64 kg hero of the red-black club battled all the way through from the round of 32 lineup to the final first beating Vladimir Matvichuk from Ukraine, Hassan Amzil from France in the round of 16, Yasniel Toledo López from Cuba in the round of 8 and Armenian boxer from Germany Artyom Arutyunyan before losing the final.

It is worth to remember that, joining the Olympic Games with 4 challengers, Gabala Sport Club has finished with 3 medals, including one silverware and two bronze medals by another boxer Kamran Shahsuvarly (75 kg) and taekwondo fighter Milad Beigi Harchegani (80 kg).
