Starting Season – against Neftchala

The next coming-up match is against Neftchala on Wednesday, being the start to the 2011/2012 Azerbaijan Cup competition - seventh season in a row.

As Gabala firstly joined to League games in 2005/2006, we made different results. So, we caught up two times semi-final with one quarter final and three 1/8.

Gabala will play the cup match under coaching of Fatih Kavlak firstly after twenty seven games of championships. Six previous performs were in Faig Jabbarov’s period, eighteen- Ramiz Mammadov and three Tony Adams. Tomorrow’s match is going to be debut of Kavlak, Turkish footballer.

Our goal bomber in cup derbies Kanan Kerimov scored seven times, and Samir Zargarov, who played in Gabala’s uniform much more than all, performed in fifteen shows.

As Gabala usually show successful performance in home cup matches, we keep deep hope going to receive Neftchala on Wednesday.

Our last cup defeat at home was in the 2007/2008 season’s semi final. No one can beat Gabala in home cup matches after we lost the game to Khazar-Lankaran 1:3 on 9 April 2008 – the next three seasons were successful for Gabala with six home cup games and no losses.

New Names, Old Friends 

As Gabala is starting to the season with the 1/8 final, we will field against Neftchala, who our team met in the same group in 2005/2006, when they both had another names.

The opponents matched up last time five years and nine months ago – 2086 days past - and now they are going to meet under their current names for the first time. Within that period, the teams won one game for each.

There is no players in our squad who challenged against Neftchala in past. In the first group, Gabala won Neftchala by goals of Rovshan Ahmadov and Rashad Yusubov. But in the second round, the opponent was happy having the minimal score.
