Closing 2014 is considered successful with some many achievements both in football and other sports. In the following, most notable 14 successes of the club are listed:
1. First-ever in European Cup
Being founded in 2005, Gabala could reach to their debut in the European League finishing 3rd in the domestic league. In the qualifying stage, the red-black side met with Siroki Brijeg from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Gabala came on their first European Cup match in Gabala.
2. Bronze, making history
Gabala took their first award from the Azerbaijan league defeating Sumgayit 3:1 on 17 May 2014. As Neftchi stayed on 3rd up to the last tour loosing point, Gabala were gifted a bronze medal with 61 points from 36 matches. The red-black side were staying only behind Garabagh and Inter. Gabala”s possession included 18 victories, as well as 7 draws and 11 defeats through 48 goals, with 36 conceded.
3. Pulsating Final
Stopping in the round of 8 for the last 3 seasons and keeping unbeaten in the last 2 seasons, Gabala could hit their first domestic cup experience. The red-black squad defeated to Neftchi only in the penalty shootout after 120-minute warm-up game when Yuri Semin was the head coach.
4. Tradition going on
Gabala hosted International Cup for U15 that was joined by Liverpul (England), Fenerbahce (Turkey), Udineze (Italy), Rapid (Austria), Lokomotiv (Russia), Anderlext (Belgium). Azerbaijan was represented by both Gabala and Neftchi. Anderlext finished on top as Gabala could develop into semifinal before sitting 4th.
5. 8 teams, 7 medals
Gabala Football Academy teams gained 7 medals for 8 teams. U13, U15 and U16 took gold medals as U12, U12, U17 and U19 earned silver, as well as U14 with bronze.
6. 4th time amongst top trio
Gabala reserves repeated their best result of 2011/12 finishing the last season with silver medals. They were only behind Inter to take their 4th award ever. It is worth to remember 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons when Gabala substitutes reaached to bronze medals on the trot.
7. Two knew records
Gabala renewed 2 records of the club over 2014. Brazilian Dodo could strike the title having most match expeience moving ahead of Pavel Dorosev, who were keeping up his name with 99 games. Now Dodo”s possession includes 122 appearances and 8 goals for 2014. And Victor Mendy extended his goals up to 26 leaving Rovshan Ahmadov behind who have 20 goals.
8. 1st Place in Europe
Fariz Mammadov, boxing for Gabala, Azerbaijan, could hit the title European Champion in revenge fight against German Matthias Pelk. He took title of WBO and WBCA.
9. Two Medals from Poland
Gabala judokas earned Azerbaijan national team 2 medals of 3 in the European Championship for fighters under 23. Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) squared silver as Mehman Sadikhov (60 kg) took bronze. The latter also earned another bronze from International Youth Cup in USA.
10. World Cup in Gabala
Gabla hosted final of World Cup on Olympic Shootings that was organized by the Gabala Shooting Club and Azerbaijan Shooting Federation. The project was also supported by Azerbaijan”s National Olympic Committee, Ministry of Youth and Sports and was joined by 280 challengers in bullet and stand shootings.
11. Gabala Opening new Department
SC Gabala launched free-style wrestling to add this new sports field to boxing, judo, taekwondo, shooting, karate, kickboxing and MMA in the club.
12. From Porto to Gabala
The most notable transfer during 2014 was with Russian Yuri Semin who coached Gabala first team and guided them up to European league.
Another remarkable deal was made with Marat Izmaylov from Porto to be the most outstanding player of the club. The midfielder took place in 2 European Cups and 1 World Championship. He ended his time with Gabala in the last summer. Cup final, bronze medal and European Cup experience of Gabala caught eye from Russia”s premier league clubs. It is well evident with Semin and his assistants Lorenso Ebesilio and Ibrahim Niasse moving to Mordoviya, as Izmaylov was transferred to Krasnodar.
13. Gold Medal from Taiwan
Gabala”s taekwondo department reached to their record in 2014 with 2 fighters being world champion. But there is another challenger with bigger success. Mahammad Mammadov stroke top of the International Championship of Youth in Taiwan. And Nargiz Mirzayeva took bronze in the same kind of contest in Baku.
14. Spectacular Kickboxing in Gabala
Gabala Olympics Complex hosted a great kickboxing championship organized by SC Gabala with support of domestic Ministry of Youth and Sports and Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation. In its first experience of Gabala Fight Series, there were held some fights on Glory Ranked Fights where Gabala”s Parviz Abdullayev beat Chinese Jiao Fukaini by knockout. He earned tally to fight for Glory title.
