Scoring in the winner against Garabagh in the quarterfinal cup return match (2:1), Gabala”s Senegalian legionnaire Victor Mendy hits his 50th goal for Gabala after his debut with the club in 2005.

The red-black squad came on 36 cup events during 9 seasons taking 17 victories, as well as making 11 draws and losing 7 games. The opponents fed only 30 goals back to 50 goals of Gabala.

The winner goal of African Mendy moved him up to the level with most productive player of the club Rovshan Ahmadov, with his 20th goal in the 85th event.

As Mendy was able to score 18 league and 2 cup goals, Ahmadov shot in 19 only at the First Division.

Scoring in the opener against Garabagh, Danijel Subotic extended his run amongst the best scorers of the club: Victor Mendy, Rovshan Ahmadov –both with 20 goals, Kanan Karimov - 18, Yannick Kamanan - 17, Luis Hilario – 16, Deon Burton – 15, Ibrahim Hüseynov, Vitali Balamestni, Danijel Subotic – all with 12, Rashad Yusubov – 11, Samir Zargarov – 10.

Luis Hilario came on his 95th match as Mendy did with his 85th for Gabala, both staying in the list of the top 6: Pavel Dorosev – 99, Abdulkader Kamara – 97, Luis Hilario, Azer Hashimov – both with 95, Lubo Baranin – 90, Victor Mendy – 85. 

The away victory over Garabagh reached head coach Yuri Semin to his 15th in all 29 games for Gabala in his all experiences with the club including 26 Premier League and 3 cup games. Under the lead of the Russian specialist, Gabala could take, respectively, 13 and 2 victories.

Gabala scored 40 goals allowing 26 in all 29 events with Semin, who is having more experiences with 6 draws and 8 defeats. 

Now Gabala is reaching up to the Semifinal Cup Round for their 3rd time after the 5-year break as they hit the level in 2007/08 and 2008/09.
