Baku has hosted Boxing Championship dedicated to the Azerbaijan Democratic Public’s 100th anniversary today at the Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Center. The project has been organized by the Congress of European Azerbaijanis and supported by the the Gabala Sport Club. The tournament was joined by seven challengers from Azerbaijan, four from Georgia, two from Ukraine, one from each Russia, South Africa and Hungary.
In rating matches, Ukrainian Taras Golovashenko beat Georgian opponent Zaza Amiradze with knockout. Two Azerbaijani challengers Ismat Eynullayev and Shirkhan Mammadov faced each other and the latter was defeated by knockout. Another Azerbaijan boxer Kanan Huseynaliyev beat Jozsef Ajtai from Hungary with knockout while another knockout was sealed by Azerbaijan’s Samir Hajiyev on Georgian Anika Vakhtangashvili. Georgian challenger Sandro Terashvili lost to host Vusal Aliyev in four rounds. In the last rating match, Rauf Aghayev beat Spartak Shengeliya in four rounds.
The main match of the day was in heavy weight. In IBO and WBCA world belts matches of twelve rounds, Ukrainian Roman Golovashenko and African Kevin Lerena met each other. First the momentum seamed on the Ukrainian side, but then from the third round, the Lerena looked faster on the canvas and seized on mistakes during Golovashenko’s defense. He beat the Ukrainian opponent after knockdown in the fifth round keeping up fighting until the end as the number one. The African challenger was charged by the referees as the winner with 115:112, 115:112 and 116:111.
The WCA and WBC Asian Belt went to Ibrahim Tsurov from Russia defeating Azerbaijan boxer Malik Mammadzadeh with knockout.
