Aghayev won European silver medal

Gabala’s Rafael Aghayev, challenging also for the Azerbaijan national karate team, hit the silverware of the 54th EKF Senior Championships, Guadalajara, Spain. The 75-kg challenger lost to Luigi Busa (Italy) by 1:0 after a light injury on his eybrow in the semifinal.
Developing into the semifinal, first he had beaten Yusid Suljich (Bosnia and Herzegovina) with 3:0, Bekim Bashan (Albania) with 3:1, Elhami Shabanini (Kosovo) with 3:0. Then he defeated Stanislav Horuna (Ukraine) by 5:1 ahead of the final.
This was registered as Aghayev’s 13th final experience in the continental contests. It’s worth to notice the 5-time world champion and 11-time European champion has eleven gold, two silver and two bronze medals from the European tournaments.
