Gabala are struggling against Garabagh in the first leg of the cup quarterfinal amongst top 8 at the table. Our team are pushing on the tally to the semifinal.

Gabala came on the home pitch with not in their best staff as injured Victor Mendy and Aleksandr Chertoganov watched the game on the bench. Today, our starting lineup  was two-player different from that against Khazar Lankaran in the last tour of the Premier League. Winter transfer Jeyhun Sultanov with his first in Gabala and Brazilian midfielder, who appeared on his first leg in 2013, replaced both Chertoganov and Romanian Christian Pulhak. And our another midfielder Amit Guluzadeh was helping Jeyhun on the position.

The home side started well but the first threat came from the other end in the 8th minute when Diego Costa gave a great save denying an express telegraph from visitor Afran Ismayilov. Later on, the sides went to backs to the wall display with short attacks at times and defending efforts meantime. But it was Gabala getting in behind the opponents more regularly. It seemed as a matter of time before the 33rd minute when Dodo headed the ball into the net after Daniel Lopez Cruz shot right to the 18-yard box from the left- 1:0. Gabala left the half on top.

After the brake, it appeared to be hard to protect the lead as Diego could not stand against opponent Vugar Nadirov"s shot on 56 minutes. As the game was balanced, Gabala"s head coach Ramiz Mammadov produced Yashar Abuzarov and Christian Pulhak giving more dynamism to the team. Our team seemed more like to score with some efforts at the closing stage. And even in 5 minutes left, Yannick Kamanan shot the ball from Cristian Pulhak on target but the latter was in offside. And the final whistle of Aliyar Aghayev left the sides at peace.

The semifinal side will be appear after the replying match-up to be held on Thursday.
