Gabala youth team have fallen to Dynamo Moscow from Russia in their first leg of the season”s UEFA Champions Young League Path. The home match was the maiden experience of the red-black side, who won the domestic U19 League of the 2015/2016 season. The team were fielded by their coach Huseyngulu Guliyev against the opponents, champions of the Russian league last season.
The match started by mutual investigations and with further minutes into the game, the ambitious of both teams went out to be known. Later on, Gabala gained foothold in the proceedings and their Northern opponents also looked attempting with free-kicks and corners.
Roman Huseynov was wrong-footed in the 8th minute and shortly before his pass found Rovlan Muradov giving a poor finish as the latter fell down in the box. But the referee kept the game going.
Gabala set up their pulsating threat right the early 30 minutes went out when the opponent defense looked lost with 2 players against 5 home attackers. But our effort was cleared off the line by keeper Nikita Kalugin.
Then Roman gave some more troubles to the visitors but his team-mates were unable to break the deadlock.
Just on 3 minutes from the half-time, Dynamo scored their first with Kalugin”s powerful strike. And in the last minute of the half, Huseyno”s shot was denied by the post.
Right after the interval, Nikolay Obolskiy doubled Dynamo”s lead. Huseyngulu Guliyev”s squad went close to feeding back but Farid Nabiyev saw his show tipped wide. Later on, Ulvi Isgandarov”s long-range kick also passed wide of the target.
Gabala were all out for the first goal of Azerbaijan clubs in the continental campaign, but they failed in one of their attacks that kept the opponents under sustained 5-minutes period of pressure close to the box.
Now the sides will face again in the revers match at the Rodina Stadium, Khimki, Moscow, on October 19.
