Gabala won 1:0 over LOSC (France) progressing into the play-off roundof the UEFA EL in the return match of the 3rd Qualifying Round in Baku.
The pace of the game started by mutual attacks. But the sides were unable to set up any serious threat for the early minutes. Ricardinho gave the first trouble to the visitors with low pass from the left making the opponent defense and keeper lost. But Gabala could not kick in.
Attack from the left by Lille reached to Eder, but his header was poor.
Roman Grigorchuk”s red-black side held on when Lille gained the momentum, and Gabala goal keeper stayed clear.
The opener arrived in the 34th minute when Theo Weeks”s cross found Filip Ozobich shooting in with a 23-meter drive- 1:0. The Croatian scored his 2nd for Gabala.
After the goal, the guests from Lille stepped their inroads into the Gabala defense, but the red-black squad fed back with counter attacks and Bagali Dabo drew attention with his quick efforts.
After the half-time, the game restarted by the same scenario. Dabo”s pass found Sergei Zenjov, but the latter was deflected by the opponent defenders.
Then Lille gave some many efforts with long-range shots. Sebastian Korchia”s scoring from the right was cancelled by Dmitro Bezotosny. He gave some more saves in the further minutes.
Gabala captain Rashad Sadigov set up the next occasion but his effort could not find the net.
In the closing minutes, the French side threw everything against Gabala but the red-black team held on and pushed harder to doubling their lead with counter attacks. Sadigov”s telegraph reached to Asif Mammadov denied by the keeper.
The result left Gabala having their 3rd home win in the continental campaign and making history as the first-ever Azerbaijan side beating any club from France. Grigorchuk”s team hit the play-off round for their 2nd season on the trot. Gabala also are keeping up the scoring streak of the last 6 games of the season.
