Gabala lost to Neftchi with 2:1 in the Azerbaijan Cup semifinal at home. Roman Grigorchuk’s team were all for victory, but they were unable. The opener was scored by Lucas Gomes of the team from capital Baku. Just before the half-time, Namig Alasgarov doubled Heftchi’s lead.
After the restart, Gabala gave power to their attacks and Grigorchuk tried to change the course of the game with some substitutions. This led to leveling with Steeven Monroze’s header after a superb cross from Ilgar Gurbanov. This was registered as the third single goal of the legionnaire in the last three matches. It’s also his tenth goal for Gabala.
Now the pair will face again in the return match at the Bakcell Arena, Baku on April 18.
