Gabala beat AZAL 2:0 in the opener of the Azerbaijan Premier League’s 17th tour at home. Roman Grigorchuk’s team gained the took the lead just going into early minutes of the match. But the visitor defense held on.
Filip Ozobic’s two long range shots were denied by the AZAL keeper. The opponent side’s counter attack could go only the edge of the box and was cancelled by our defensive line. The first threat within the half was set up by Ruslan Gurbanov with his two efforts a bit delayed and denied by the opponent defense.
Grigorchuk reinforced the Gabala defense introducing Sergei Zenjov after the break.
Holding most spaces, Gabala kept AZAL under sustained period of pressure and the opponents backed on counter attacks.
With early minutes into the second half, correspondence between Ozobic and Daniel Subotic led to a foul by AZAL on the latter when the visiting side went down to ten. Ozobic fired the penalty into the goal that was registered as his eighth goal for the red-black side. He also went one ahead in the list of the top scorers.
The next occasion came out from the other side but our keeper Dmytro Bezotosniy gave a great deny to save his team.
Gabala doubled their lead in the stoppage time when Mahammad Mirzabayov’s superb cross found Ozobic close to the spot to finish clinically – 2:0. The result left Gabala boosting their points up to 38 after eleven victories.
