Gabala won 2:1 home victory on Sabah within the 10th tour of the Azerbaijan Premier League. Sanan Gurbanov’s team took a momentum in the early minutes pushing hard led to an early goal by James Adeniyi after a perfect cross by Steeven Monroze from the right. The home side kept up the pressure until the second goal sealed by Monroze after a great telegraph by Tamkin Khalilzadeh – 2:0.

Ilgar Gurbanov went too close to tripling Gabala’s lead but Serbian keeper of Sabah Sasha Stamenkovich denied his close-range shot in the 36th minute. Tamkin, Monroze and Urfan Abbasov set up some more efforts but failed to hit the opponent network. At times, the home side keeper Agil Mammadov gave a great save to his teammates denying an opponent shot just before the half-time.

After the restart, Sabah looked being all out for surviving from the loss and could score only in the 51st minute with Bakhtiyar Soltanov. Then visiting side’s Tural Gurbatov was unable to hit the target from a promising position. Later on, Gabala coach Gurbanov introduced Gismat Aliyev and Asif Mammadov before the red-black squad set up some quick counter attacks but Stamenkovic saved his team again on two occasions. Gabal keeper Agil Mammadov showed his value deflecting a pulsating effort by Sabah in the 82nd minute. In the closing minutes, Adeniyi went too close to sealing his double but Stamenkovic held on clear again.
Now, Gabala are sitting 5th after their third win of the season.
