Sabah started faster. But the Gabala defense held on clear. Going more into the first period, the red-black side set up counter attacks let to an opener by Clesio Bauque after superb cross from Yusif Nabiyev. This was his first goal for Gabala. Shortly after the goal, the footballer from Mozambique took another chance to double his value on the show but his right drive was denied by the opponent keeper. But he was able to score his second just before the break: 2:0.
After the restart, Bauque could have reached Gabala’s lead to the third goal but saw his effort off the target. Sabah pushed harder to survive from the loss but our defensive line held on and Anar Nazirov gave some great saves at times. Another occasion by Clesio was deflected by the Sabah goal keeper, and the returned ball found Fernan Lopez. But the latter’s shot was denied by Karim Diniyev in the lost network. Then efforts by Merab Gigauri and Davit Volkov passed wide. In the closing minutes, the Georgian footballer set up Ulvi Isgandarov to shot in from the box.
The result was registered as Gabala’s third comfortable home victory on the trot after the same results against Sabail and Zira in the premier league. Now the side will face on December 19 for the return match.
