Gabala took a comfortable victory on Sabail with three goals in the first tie of the 2018/19 season.

The home match started by mutual attacks and check-up efforts before going into warm minutes. The first threat was set up by Gabala’s Tamkin Khalilzadeh with a 22-meter drive in the 8th minute and the opponent keeper deflected. The visiting side fed back with Edgar Pasheko cutting through Gabala’s Dmytro Bezotosniy before Vojislav Stankovic capitalized on the ball to give a great save to his teammates.  

Going more into the game, Tamkin set up Lalevele Atakora getting too close to scoring but the Sabail keeper denied the 12-meter drive. The opener was scored by Sanan Gurbanov’s red-black team as Tamkin traveled from the left and followed by James Adeniyi set up a cross that found Asif Mammadov. The latter scored the first goal of the season. The goal prompted Sabail to stepping up their inroads into the Gabala defense but the home side went to a pressing displayed.

After the half-time, Gabala looked too close to doubling their lead but Atakora, Tamkin and Lalavele failed on their efforts. Then Atakora converted Adeniyi’s pass to Urfan Abbasov scored the second goal.

Later on, Atakora came on-n-one with the Sabail keeper but failed on his chance. And the returned ball found Ilgar Gurbanov set up James to finish in the third goal.

The latter was replaced by Rauf Aliyev who set up some pulsating minutes but was unable to shot.
