Gabala beat Sabail within the round of 8 final of the Azerbaijan Cup in the return match after winning the home game by 1:0.
Roman Grigorchuk’s team started faster setting up some troubles against the host keeper. But the opener was scored by Sabail with Adrian Popovichi. The team from Baku were unable to keep up the lead for long as Gabala’s Filip Ozobic scored his fourth cup goal of the season. Then Ruslan Gurbanov put the visiting side one ahead just before the break.
The home side looked faster after the half-time but it was Gabala staying clear and doubling their lead as Famussa Kone. The red-black squad shot their third goal by Bagaliy Dabo before Elman Taghayev scored, too, saving Sabail from a high-scoring loss.
The final whistle left Gabala progressing into the semifinal match against Neftchi at home fixed to April 11 and the away game will be held a week later.
