Gabala gave a start to the 2018/2019 season with the first tie against Progres (Luxemburg) within the UEFA Europa League’s 1st Qualifying Round.

The pace of the home match started with mutual check-out attacks and Sanan Gurbanovs red-black team gained the momentum gradually. The opponent side looked in a backs-on-the-walls display for moments. But the home side were unable to break the Progres defense in the half.

Shortly after the restart, the visiting side opened the scoring with Mayron de Almeida. After the goal, Gabala pushed harder in their all power but failed to level. And the opponents doubled their lead with a penalty by Olivye Till after Sabien Lilay’s foul in the box.

Then, Asif Mammadov shot from a position close to the box but saw his effort denied by the Progres keeper.

At times, Tamkin Khalilzadeh and Steeven Monroze gave troubles to the visitors but the opponent defense held on clear. And in the closing minutes, Rauf Aliyev caught the eye with some shorts and Progres also failed on their further counter attacks.

Just to remember, the return match will be held on the next Thursday, July 19 in Luxemburg.
