At the 6th tour of the Topaz Premier League, Gabala faced AZAL in away who are at the top of the tournament table. The match was the 19th tie of the pair. AZAL were of the hardest teams fro Gabala to beat as the read-black side won only 4 victories since the first-ever tie of the sides in 2006. The team from Baku lapped up the plaudits for their 8 wins. There are 6 more draws of all 18 games. The goal difference also is on the favor of the capital city team – 27:13. Gabala were able to win over AZAL for the last time in  away during February of 2010. The game was important to get the foothold at the top 3 on the league table. 

The home side started faster. Oluremi shot home having the ball clear from the corner in the 3rd minute. AZAL"s lead went not for long and Gabala fed back then. Ebecilio set up Mendy headed home. Jahangir Hasanzadeh touched the ball but it passed in.

In the 15th minute, Gabala looked close to doubling their goal when Dodo met a delivery from Nizami Hajiyev before failing to head in. Mendy also went close to scoring Gabala"s second in the 25th minute when AZAL"s defense looked lost with a bitterly mistake, but he went on off target. The number 9 of Gabala pinged off the net right on 30 minutes but the linesman pointed it to offside. And just a minute later, the team of Yuri Semin went one ahead when Subotic got the ball with his breast from his teammate before firing into the net. It was his first goal in his debut match. Gabala left the half on top.

The second period also went on with mutual attacks. In the 50th minute, the game turned on one red card awarded against Gabala. Amit Guluzadeh was sent off after his second yellow. The red-black half of the pitch got some goal chances at times although they went down to 10. Both teams dragged into the next goal, but the scoresheet held on and the game ended in 1:2 in the favor of Gabala, who finally were able to break the AZAL deadlock. The result left Gaballa moving up to the 3rd place on the league table.
