SC Gabala signing with new head coach Roman Grigorchuk for the first team after Romanian Dorinel Munteanu ended his time with the club. The Ukrainian skipper, 49-year-old, signed a 1,5 year deal.
He played for 5 states, as well as in his native Ukraine for Prikarpatye (1988-94) and Krivbass (1996-97). Grigorchuk built his career as a professional player also with Austria”s Sankt-Pelten (1994-95), Poland”s Petrokimia (1995) and Russia”s Saturn (1996-97). Leaving to Latvia in 1998, he played for Dinaburg over 2 years where he was also a coach assistant before being the head coach of the club during 2000-2005.
Roman kept up his coaching career for another Latvian team Ventspils over 2005-2009, where he gained some vital titles. He guided the team to the 1st place in domestic league for 3 times (2006, 2007, 2008) and 2 Latvian cups (2005, 2007).
Grigorchuk also could reach his team up to both Union Cup and Baltic League final in 2007. Then he put an end to his 11 year-period in Latvia in 2009 to go back to Ukraine for his further coaching activity for Metallurg of Zaporojye over 2009-2010.
Just before joining Gabala, Roman trained for Chornomorets Odesa from 2010 up to December 2014 where he developed the A team into domestic premier league from 1st Division in the 2010-2011 season. His squad also could take a tally to domestic cup final of 2012-2013. Chernomorets were able to move up to 1/16 final of UEFA European League 2013-2014.
Grigorchuk is married and having 2 children.
