It was a high-pressure match as both sides were having the same possession of two points. The pair got high tension just from their respective punishing defeats in the last tour.
The pace of the event started by checkout inroads of the sides. The first threat came up in the 15th minute from opponent Ruslan Gurbanov, but Diego of Gabala was clean before making another great save to deny Jeyhun Sultanov.
After opening the scoring, Sumgayit could have been fed back by the Kalabane trouble on 18 minutes, but he failed on the ball traveling from Certoganov. Coming from behind, Gabala scored back to level in the 32nd minute with Bruno da Silva powering the ball from Assis into the close-range corner. And the visitors were not be able to leave the half with the lead.
It was quit different Gabala came on the second period with attacking tactics by Fatih Kavlak that started to punish the guests. Laying out their inroads mainly from the left, Assis and Dodo kept the back line of Sumgayit under sustainable pressure. It seemed just a matter of time before Kalabane met a corner delivery of Assis to head a perfect goal in the 53rd minute- 2:1. It was the first-ever goal of the Guinea national team skipper for his new club.
After the goal, the Sumgayit defensive line seamed to be lost and it led Gabala to score their 3rd. Rashad at the close range superbly shot home before the superb telegraph from Assis getting into the box from the left. Abdullayev hit the same success with Kalabane scoring his first goal for Gabala against Sumgayit.
Keeping their gung-ho spirit, Gabala shot the 4th goal on 71 minutes by the same tactics of Assis and Kalabane heading in after a corner- 4:1.
The score could have been risen up by one goal for each team, but they were offside. So, it was a bitterly disappointing night that Sumgayit will suffer for a long time. And it is Gabala going up to the 3rd tier on the league table.
