Gabala won 2:0 over MTK Budapest in the return match of the 2nd Qualifying Round of the UEFA EL today.
The visitors started faster but Gabala pushed them back to score an early opener in the 7th minute, when Theo Weeks”s superb pass found Bagali Dabo to set Sergei Zenjov in a promising position. The latter, coming one-on-one with the MTK keeper, fired in his 6th goal for Gabala, including 4 in the UEFA EL.
The next threatening moment came up with Weeks, on 28 minutes, with a powerful shot missed.
A few minutes later, Nika Kvekveskiri took a corner that found Vitaliy Vernydub denied by the opponent defenders.
Weeks doubled Gabala”s lead in the 37th minute with a superior header – 2:0.
Gabala kept up the lead after the restart. MTK”s Barnabas Bese had a n effort on goal failed.
Weeks and Sadygov performed a good exchange in the 61st minute and the latter missed the target in the box.
Filip Ozobic could have tripled Gabala”s lead but his shot was denied by the visiting keeper.
Although some more mutual efforts, the sides could not score the 3rd goal on of the night and the result left the red-black team earning a tally to the 3rd Qualifying Round where they are going to face Lille (France).
