Gabala won 1:0 over AZAL in the away of the Azerbaijan Cup as Roman Grigorchuk’s red-black side came on their last tie in 2016.

The pace of the match started by mutual attacks but both sides were unable to set up threats. Although Gabala’s Sergei Zenjov and Vojislav Stankovic went too close to opening the score the half ended goalless.

After the start, the game came to life with mutual threats. And Gabala went one ahead with Asif Mammadov’s opener in the 53rd minute. After the goal, the visiting side gained some more occasions with Theo Weeks and Zenjov in promising positions.

At times, the home side also looked going for quick attacks making up some many troubles to our keeper Dmytro Bezotosniy. But he held on clear and protected his team’s chance to the semifinal against Inter Baku fixed to March 30 and April 5 next year. The first tie will be held in Baku.

During the second half, 17-year-old Farid Nabiyev from Gabala Football Academy was introduced to his debut performance for the first team. This was also a jubilee 50th cup game of the club.
