Gabala lost to Simurg in the round of 8 cup match by 3:0. Roman Grigorchuk”s side started faster. In 5 minutes into the game, Bakhtiyar Soltanov went close to scoring but he was denied by the opponent keeper. Then Simurg”s Dragan Cheran opened the scoring in the 17th minute. After the goal Gabala took momentum with Ekigho Ehiosun, Aleksey Gai and Victor Mendy. But their efforts could not find the target.
Then the visitors doubled their lead by the 2nd goal from Cheran before Benjamin Lambot tripled for Simurg. The winner goal left a break on the unbeaten streak of 13 cup matches of Gabala, 1457 days after away defeat to Baku on 8 March 2011. The return game is expected to 13 March.
