First tie, in Baku – 5:1

Gabala faced Samtredia in the second leg of the UEFA EL 1st Qualifying Round today. Although losing 2:1 in Tbilisi, Roman Grigorchuk”s side hit the tally to 2nd qualifying round as the previous game ended in 5:1 for the favor of Gabala in Baku.

Grigorchuk introduced his team for the 75th time as a head coach.

The pace of the match started by mutual attacks and then Dmytro Bezotosny gave a great save to his team denying Dachi Tsobiladze. Samtredia”s Nika Kvekveskiri also was deflected by the Gabala defense.

The Georgian side”s most dengarous player Budu Zivzivadze earned his team penalty in the 13th minute when Vitaliy Vernydub was found fouling on him. Budu changed the chance to 1:0.

The goal prompted Samtredia to set up some more attacks with Bachana Arabuli and Zivzivadze, but Bezotosny held on.

Gabala fed back with Kvekveskiri after a free-kick, but off target.

Pushing all against Bezotosny, Samtredia forced the Gabala keeper to show his best denying Giorgi Datunashvili before upsetting Lasha Shergelashvili and Giorgi Qamkrellidze, too, in the late half time.

And Gabala”s quick attack led to leveling when Sergei Zenjov set Theo Weeks up to kick in – 1:1. This was the 4th goal by the Liberian in the season.

After the half-time, Gamkrelidze looked very close to putting his team one ahead but Bezotosny canceled the goal.

But it was the red-black squad gaining the momentum again to hit their 1st away win in the UEFA EL on 62 minutes when Zenjov was denied by the post before Weeks repeated the shot deflected by the keeper.

Another threat from Gabala to Samtredia came up by Tellur Mutallimov with off-target kick.

Gabala”s some more efforts also could not find the net and the match ended in 2:1 after Mchedlishvili passed to Shergelashvili to earn his team the victory.

Now our next opponents are going to be known as the match between Aktobe (Kazakhstan) and MTK (Hungary) will finish shorty.
