Gabala beat Garabagh 2:1 at home match within the 16th tour of the Topaz Premier League with the first game after head coach Dorinel Munteanu resigned. And it was Sanan Gurbanov”s first experience as the head coach of the A team.
The match started by mutual attacks with failure passes from both sides. Gabala came out setting up the first threat with Ekigho Ehiosun, in the 19th minute, meeting the ball from the right targeting the left corner in the box before visitor keeper Ibrahim Sehich deflected it. Three minutes later, Garabagh scored as Kamran Aghayev sprang ahead to deny Namig Alasgarov but his kick touched the latter and converted in – 0:1.
Although the goal prompted Gabala, they were unable to level up to the half-time, even with the 38th minute when Markinyos in the box failed to shot in. Dodo also hit over the woodwork with free kick.
The second period started by goal as Ehiosun surging forward from the left to pass to Bakhtiyar Soltanov in the box who gave a clinical finish by header – 1:1. After leveling, Gabala gained more power with sustained period of pressure with Ehiosun in the left. On 59 minutes, he set up another chance for Soltanov to double his scoring at the other end but the latter”s shot was a bit off target.
Only a minute later, Dodo reached to the ball from Ehiosun close to the spot and fired putting Gabala one ahead – 2:1. Then in the 88th minute, Garabagh went too close to leveling with Muarem Muarem on the edge of the box by failure shot.
Ekigho looked still pushing on to scoring with 2 more superb crosses and off-target shot. Now the red-black side reached their first victory after 51 days of 5 winless matches also breaking the Garabagh deadlock after 7 games.
