Gabala won 2:0 over Kapaz in the first leg of the Azerbaijan Premier League today in Baku.
The match started by mutual attacks and Gabala, coached by Roman Grigorchuk, gained the momentum with early minutes into the game. But their efforts could not find the net.
Later on, exchange between Theo Weeks and Filip Ozobic from the red-black side set up the first threat on the show when the latter gave a powerful shot denied by Tadas Simaitis.
Then Rashad Sadigov left the pitch on his injury and was replaced by Tellur Mutallimov. The captain sign was given to Rafael.
Long range shot by Kapaz found Dario Federico coming one-on-on with Dmytro Bezotosnyi, but the keeper gave a great save to his teammates.
Then Mutallimov”s poor header missed the goal. But he was able to be the hero of the night in the 2nd period, when Kapaz pushed hard to taking the lead. And Gabala”s counter attack worked well with Asif Mammadov making a long range shot that was met by Ozobic converting to Mutallimov finished clinically – 1:0. This was his first goal for the senior team.
The goal prompted the squad from Ganja stepping up their inroads into the Gabala defense.
Bozotosnyi gave another save deflecting Karim Diniyev and held on clear against all further efforts by the opponents.
Sergei Zenjov”s goal was cancelled by the post and the returned ball was converted by Mutallimov from the right to Bagali Dabo doubling Gabala”s lead – 2:0. This was the debut goal by the French footballer.
The home side kept the visitor under sustained period of pressure and ended as the winner side.
