Gabala have extended their unbeaten streak into the ninth tour of the Azerbaijan Premier League ending 2:2 with Sumgayit.

Roman Grigorchuk’s red-black side got a foothold in proceedings from the early minutes setting up quick attacks into the home defense. But Sumgayit held on clear. Both sides were unable to score in the half.

Right after the restart, the home side opened the scoring when Yusif Nabiyev finished the pass from the right.

The goal prompted Gabala to drive more attacks to level. Grigorchuk’s some exchanges were also a part of the dynamism. But Sumgayit looked trying to launch counter attacks ending at the Gabala post two times.

And it was Gabala, always being able to score in all past ties of the pair, showing their resilience once again with Rashad Eyubov leveling after a superb cross from the right found the keeper, and the midfielder kicked the returned ball in on 64 minutes. This was the midfielder’s first goal of the season. Only nine minutes later, Filip Ozobic put the visitors one ahead by his fourth goal of the season.

In six minutes left, the Gabala head coach introduced Javid Huseynov, who shown up last time at the UEFA EL match against Apollon (Cyprus) in Baku, on August 6 of the last year. He is back to the pitch after 446 days.

Gabala set up some more attacks in the closing minutes before Sumgayit drove another counter attack when Amit Guluzadeh hit the post. In the stoppage time, Sadig Guliyev conceded a red card and penalty that cancelled Gabala’s victory with shot by Amil Yunanov.

The result left the red-black team with the second draw on the trot after the last league game against Inter (1:1).
