Gabala are going to start to the first leg match of the season’s UEFA Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round. Our opponents are Jagiellonia Bialystok who won over Dinamo Batumi (Georgia) with 1:0, 4:0. Let’s meet the other side:
Being created on May 30, 1920, Jagiellonia host their opponents at the Bialystok City Stadium, built up in 1970 and restored in 2014. The pitch is having 22, 372 seats.
The Bialystok club have changed their names many times in their history of 97 years and are keeping the current name since 2003.
Key Facts:
- Jagiellonia reached to the domestic cup final in the 1988/89 season that is their biggest achievement of the last century.
- Jagiellonia won the second place of the First Division in the 2006/07 season and became a permanent Ekstraklasa side.
- The first serious success arrived during the 2009/10 season when they beat Pogon 1:0 in the final gaining the maiden tally to the UEFA EL. The Jagiellonia defeated Lex with the same result and earned a Supercub. Both achievements in 2010 are yet the last of the club.
- Their Eurocup debut didn’t worked out well as Aris (Greece) defeated them with 1:2, 2:2 in 2010/11 one year before Irtysh beat them, too, by (1:0, 0:2).
- After Mihal Probej took charge on the Polish team as a coach in 2014, he guided them to bronze medal as the first award in the Ekstraklasa. This time they could take a round in LE. But although they could beat Kruoja (Lithuania) with 8:0, 1:0, they lost to Omonia (Cyprus) by 0:0, 0:1.
- They hit their maiden silverware in the 2016/17 season. It was when they were keeping the lead on the league table and ended in a level with Lex in the final with two points behind the opponent team, which was the reason to force the head coach to resign. He was changed by Ireniush Mamrot taking an official debut against Dinamo in Georgia where Killian Sherida scored for the away victory. And in the home game, Guti, Fyodor Chernikh, Ivan Runye and Lukas Sekulski scored to earned Jagiellonia a high scoring win.
