Gabala are going to face Progres (Luxemburg) in the UEFA EL 1st qualifying round’s main path. The opponent side are joining the continental championship after ending the season’s domestic league as runners-up with 63 points from 26 matches. They lost the final match against Dudelange. Progres ended five points behind the champion team and sixteen points ahead of the third winner. Progres were all focused on the league and left the domestic cup in the round of 16.
The Luxemburg team, coached by Paolo Amodio, hit their best result winning the silverware of the last season. The team from a town of Niederkorn had won the earlier silver medal in the season of 1981/82. Being founded in 1919, gained better results but all in the last century as they won the domestic league in 1952/53, 1977/78 and 1980/81, as well as hit the cup in 1932/33, 1944/45, 1976/77 and 1977/78.
Progres took their UEFA EL debut in 1977 and came on five continental championships during six years but lost nine games of all the ten. They are having one EL goal and one draw and have been waiting their next chance over 33 years. Progres played in lower leagues of Luxemburg and hit a tally to the Premier League in the 2005/06 season. And they got back to the EL in 2015 but left the continental tournament goalless again and ended in a single draw in their best. The season of 2017/18 was registered as the best term of Progres beating Rangers (Scotland) to move into the next stage after 2:0 win at home and 0:1 away loss. Then they lost back-to-back games to AEL (Cyprus) with 0:1 and 1:2. The Luxemburg team made their EL way all though a single victory, two draws and thirteen losses in their all sixteen appearances. They scored four and conceded 36.
The opponent side play home matches at the Stad Jos Haupert Stadium in Niederkorn with 4,830 seats.
