The pace of the game started by checkup attacks of the sides. After 10 minutes, Baku stepped up their efforts at the forward line that led to the opening goal by host Mindauqas Kalonas. Baku"s Marius Pena also looked close to scoring.

Gabala appeared with their first threat only in the 18th minute when Kamanan failed to score receiving the ball from Niasse after Dodo"s cross from the right.

With the restart, it was Gabala being faster from the beginning minutes to the end. After Dodo was replaced by Mendy on 55 minutes, the red-black half of the pitch got the possession on the offensive line. It was well evident before Yuri Semin"s squad leveled just 2 minutes after the hour mark with Mendy headed the ball home from Leonardo Da Silva. The goal prompted Gabala to score in the winner on 82 minutes when Mendy, the hero of the night, repeated his header meeting the ball from left-flank Leonardo again past Baku"s keeper Agil Mammadov.
