Gabala have shared 1:1 draw with Neftchi in the away match of the Azerbaijan Cup semifinal.

The red-black side started faster that led to the early goal in the 5th minute when Oleksiy Gai met a superb pass from Ricardinho to score his 4th within the championship. The Ukrainian footballer repeated his early goal just like in the last league match against Khazar Lankaran. Now he is rated at the same place with Ruslan Gurbanov of Neftchi in the cup list of top scorers. The goal also was registered as his 16th for Gabala in his all appearances for the red-black team.

The home side threw everything against Roman Grigorchuk”s side after the goal, but the visitors held on. Gai looked too close to his double with his shot from around the spot that was denied by the Neftchi keeper.

Samir Zargarov”s long-range strike also was denied by the goal keeper. Another trouble to the Neftchi came out from Asif Mammadov off-target shot. And Gabala”s Dmytro Bezotosny deflected Anyete”s shot.

Gai and Zargarov could not find the net in the early second period.

Later on Neftchi scored to level with Rahman Hajiyev.

Gabala”s Rashad Eyyubov gave up a great chance to score one more from a promising position. Grigorchuk introduced Ehtiram Shahverdiyev, 19 years old, who took his debut match for the senior team 4 days ago against Khazar Lankaran.

Gabala captain Rashad Sadigov picked up his 2nd yellow card being sent off with red. It means he will not be able to play in the return match, too.

Grigorchuk introduced another debutant Pavel Pashayev in the closing minutes.

Now the pair will meet again in the return match Wednesday, May 4.
