Famil Khalilov was appointed as a head coach for Gabala U19. The team were the Azerbaijan Premier League champions with him in the season 2017-2018. Then in August 2018, he left the squad to take charge as a coach for the Azerbaijan national U15.

Now he is replacing Emin Imamamliyev, who left the Gabala Football Academy. The latter are going to coach for the Azerbaijan national team of footballers born in 2001-2002.
