As the UEFA EL reached to the 5th tour, both tallies to the round of 32 for the C group have found their owners as Borussia Dortmund (Germany) lost to Krasnodar (Russia) just before another match of the group between PAOK and Gabala today. The latter pair met for the 3rd place.
The red-black side came on their 15th match of the continental championship and kept the unbeaten run against the Greek clubs to the 4th match with the goalless draw in Thessaloniki tonight.
The pace of the match started by mutual attacks. Gabala”s Ermin Zec went too close to coming one on one with the opponent keeper before the referee whistled about the offside.
Then Oleksiy Antonov”s powerful shot almost from the spot was denied by the keeper.
Gabala defenders also held on against the PAOK attacks and Dmytro Bezotosny gave some great saves to his teammates. And Samir Zargarov in the box failed to score just before the half-time.
Starting faster to the second period, PAOK”s 19-meter free kick was deflected by the wall before Oleksiy Gai”s reply also was deflected by the keeper.
The team from Thessaloniki could have opened the scoring with Sabo failing to finish the pass from Dimitar Berbatov. And at times Ricardinho Zenyov cut through the PAOK defense but his shot could not find the net.
Another great save by Bezotosny was shown when he held the ball from Robert Mak at his only 2nd effort.
And in the closing minutes, Zec went much close to scoring from a promising position after pass by Vagif Javadov, but the Bosnian”s shot was off the target.
