Gabala have lost the return match against Progres (Luxembourg) in away within the UEFA EL’s 1st Qualifying Round today. The red-black team, coached by Sanan Gurbanov, took a quick start as they were all for the victory after the 2:0 loss at home last week. Our squad kept more spaces on the pitch but opponents’ counter attacks were threatening. But Dmytro Bezotosniy held on clear.

Gabala’s James Adeniyi went too close to opening the scoring but saw his effort tipped wide in the 11th minute. The visiting side broke the deadlock on 28 minutes when Asif Mammadov set up Steeven Monroze scored in the opener. The French player could have hit his double just before the half-time, but the opponent keeper denied him.

It was Gabala setting up more attacks again after the restart as the home side were backing on counter attacks. Gurbanov introduced new transfer Lalavele Atakora, who gave two promising shots one defected by Sebastian Floos as the second tipped wide. And Gabala’s Bezotosniy gave his teammates another great save denying Mayron de Almeida.

Gabala were the leading side even after going down to ten because of the red card picked by Tamkin Khalilzadeh. And Adeniyi hit the ball past the Progres keeper but the referee charged it off-side. Another pulsating moment was set up by Rauf Aliyev but passed wide of the goal.

The 1:0 victory left Gabala leaving the season’s continental championship.
