Gabala lost to Qarabagh with 2:1 in the closing match of the Azerbaijan Premier League’s thirteenth tour. The leaders of the championship faced in Baku. The last three seasons’ winner Qarabagh came on the pitch for keeping up their lead and winning streak of the last fourteen home matches while Roman Grigorchuk’s Gabala  were all out for holding their unbeaten run of the last fourteen games.

The pace of the match got underway with quick attacks by the home side. But the Gabala defense held on. Qarabagh’s first occasion came up going more into the match time when Dani Kintana’s long-range shot was denied by the post shortly before his second effort absorbed by our keeper Dmytro Bezotosniy. Then Gabala’s threat was more pulsating just before the half-time as Ruslan Gurbanov in the box saw his shot was deflected from the open net. Gurbanov gave another trouble to the home side just after the restart when his free-kick from a promising position was denied by Ibrahim Sehic.

Next quick effort by Gabala led to opening with Asif’s long-range cross found Filip Ozobic. The latter gave a great shot past the home keeper.

The goal prompted Qarabagh to threw everything against the visiting side. But Bezotosniy and the defense held on clear again. In the 85th minute, referee Rahim Hasanov appointed a doubtful penalty against Gabala. Although our keeper found the trajectory of Richard Almeida’s shot, he could not deal with the ball in a corner- 1:1.

Ozobich cut through the opponent defense again to come very close putting his teammates one ahead, but he was fouled by Almeida forced off the pitch.

The referee added four minutes to the match time but he kept the game going seven minutes. And during the stoppage time, Dino Ndlovun scored the all-important goal. This broke Gabala’s unbeaten run of fourteen games.
