Gabala took 1:0 victory over Garabagh in away match of the Topaz Premier League 24th tour. The red-black side came on the Tofig Bahramov Stadium in T-shirts wording Justice for Khojaly in memory of the victims killed by the genocide in Khojaly, Azerbaijan on 26 February 1992.
The home side started faster before Gabala balanced the things that seemed evident with quick attacks during the half. At times, Victor Mendy went too close to scoring before his header swung a bit away with the superb cross by Urfan Abbasov from the left in the 22 minute. The visitors pushed harder to kick the opener just ahead of the half-time when Ruslan Abishov”s corner found Ekigho Ehiosun, whose header was denied by Garabagh”s keeper Ibrahim Shehich. But host Namig Alasgarov finished with a follow-up shot for own goal – 1:0.
After the break, the home side throw everything against Gabala to level at times looking lost on the defensive line. The guests held on and fed back with counter attacks with exchange between Mendy and Dodo. The Senegal player set up the latter in the box but he failed to convert in.
Painstaking Dmitri Bezotosny came out to be of the best players of the night. Today”s victory is registered the second over Garabagh on the trot. Now Roman Grigorchuk”s squad are sitting 5th with 28 points.
