Today, the second league victory on the trot represents the progress of sorts at the Gabala side. The great home performance of our team left Neftchi drooling for the 2:1 result at the league table.
The 12th-leg game gave a start to the second round of the season where the capital city team were up to the victory to turn over their last 2 losses in Gabala. But beating Grabagh in the previous tour, Gabala were pushing to win for keeping up their league success ongoing.
The warm-up match started by mutual checkout attacks. Getting in behind the visitors regularly, Gabala could have been able to open the scoring in the early minutes. But Kamanan, being one-on-one with the Neftchi keeper after a superb pass from Lourival Assis, shot wide of goal. The home side stepped up their pressures that led to writing 1:0 on the scoresheet in the 31st minute. Assis found the opponent net by a sublime goal.
Neftchi fed back just a minute later as our back line gifted a perfect chance to the opponents for the Canales goal. The half ended in 1:1.
With the second half, Gabala got the full possession going faster after Victor Mendy came on to help with some threats. But the all-important goal arrived just with a minute left when Dodo fired into the opponent gate pouncing on the ball denied by the Neftchi defence from Rashad Abdullayev at right.
It could have been much worse for Neftchi with the 2nd-minute efforts in the extra time when Mendy, getting into the box from the right before cutting through the Neftchi defence, was held in the frame. The referee emphatically pointed to the penalty, but Bruno da Silva was off the target.
Despite, the matters were settled well before and the points went to Gabala. It was our second league victory in a row that seems the sorts came on progress. Neftchi have faced their 3rd suffer in Gabala.

Boyukagha Hajiyev: “The fatigue of my team after the Euroleague matches is still feeling. Julius Wobay yet evidently looks tired even after I gave him a break to rest. And Araz Abdullayev, substituting him, also played as not I expected. My players on the defensive line dissatisfed me. Especially Elvin Yunuszadeh was not responding to my task. After this match, we will be pushing on our closest rivals Rubin”.
Ramiz Mammadov: “I see no need to comment on the match as all are clear. My team responded to the tasks up to the final whistle. They were also well conceding no spaces until the end. I believe this will follow the further victories”.
