Gabala lost the season’s final match against Sumgayit with 2:1 after gaining the title runners-up last tour. As the things were settled down in the last match, head coach Roman Grigorchuk introduced quite different lineup tonight.

The match got underway by mutual attacks. Gabala set up first threat when Bagaliy Dabo came one-on-one with the opponent keeper.

Sumgayit looked backing on counter attacks that worked out to open the scoring with Amil Yunanov. Just two minutes later, the home side went one more again as Mirabdulla Abbasov scored their second.

The two goals prompted Gabala to step up their inroads into the opponent defense and could score back only one before within the first period when Rashad Eyyubov set up Asif Mammadov to come one-on-one with the Sumgayit keeper. The latter kicked the ball past the opponent keeper. This was the captain’s tenth goal during his time with Gabala.

Gabala looked faster after the restart. They kept more spaces on the field and held sustained period of control over the ball. Sumgayit looked for one more chance with counter attacks. But the Grigorchuk side held on.
