Gabala's Yannick Kamanan is the best league player of March with six goals. The 31-year old French forward was transferred from FC Mersin Idman Yurdu, Turkey's Super League representative, after the winter break of this year. He was really a destroying menace for opponents in five premier league matches. Kamanan did what no one has been able to do yet in the current season.
Only Garabagh was successful being off his target
Having his debut for our country in February, Yannick was not capitalized then. He was able to open his scoring by double only at the 22nd week match of the Unibank Premier League when we took the 4:0 win over Ravan on 3 March. Late on, the delayed 19th week tie with Kapaz in Ganja was of success for Yannick before three goals in final match-ups of March. Now the French talent proved himself in Gabala making remarkable double against Neftchi and being a part of the 4:1 win before his another successful display in which he scored in the 2:1 win over Inter.
Taking into consideration one cup match, Gabala played seven games in the last month, and Kamanan only failed to score against Garabagh in two cup (2:2 and 0:0) and one league matches (1:1). But he kept shooting for goals also on the April Fools' Day, but being quite strong and not fooling Baku on the 2:1 win, when he opened the scoring.
Gabala's predominance
It is not understatement that Mach was in the favour of all our team, too, although we halted in the cup competition. But it was Gabala anyway leaving the tournament unbeaten after Quarter Final drawings – 2:2 at home and 0:0 away. But Garabagh went one better through the cup rule of away goals. And our league progress led us to get a tally to the first six in March. Now Gabala stay on top of the March scoring table with 15 goals from all seven games, ahead of AZAL having 10 goals. But our all opponents at the first six possess, in the best case, only half of what we did.
Record reveals two firsts
In the merit of his best results for the last month, Yannick made a history being March's hero, the title that was approved by survey led into reporters, club coaches and captains. The French striker wrote a record after Gabala's three seasons off the nomination.
The second first is the reward presentation for Yannick that Gabala have never got right during match at home. So, on 7 April, before watching our match against Khazar Lenkoran in the 27th league tour, the Unibank and Professional Football League converged many journalists in Gabala to confer the title to the French footballer with 1,111 AZN and the other precious gift of the presenters respectively.
“My teammates stay back of those goals”
Kamanan is proud and modest about his reward saying to gabalafc.az it was a result more thanks to teammates:
-- “My goals are not products of my alone performance, I think my teammates are the most important part providing me the opportunity. Because you can't do anything good in the pitch alone, so it is a football. It is indeed they staying back of those goals. I must to be grateful to all these guys. And it is really good feeling to be a hero of a month. But it is still not the target, pointing to the European cup competitions”.
Thinking positive about Gabala's Eurocup chance, Yannick considers paramount important to take most points from the all forthcoming games. He does not restrain himself after the March reward, saying:
-- “Sure it is a good achievement, but a player's job is to score a goal, especially a striker. This is the main point ahead of me as a forward, and I'm always expected to score. You have a scoring chance as much as you spent your time in a pitch. And my performances are valued for my goals. Much shooting to score means you are a better player, but with a few goals you are not”.
The forward runs toward being a bombardier: “It is nothing clear yet. You can be late to start toiling for being a bombardier, but you can be the first gaining the title anyway, or contrary. My chance to enrich goals depends on successful displays of all the team. Thinking about only my own performance, I say scoring much is not enough for the Eurocup target”.
Yannick plays for Gabala in a 2,5-year contract after his three years in the Turkish Super League with Sivasspor (15 goals from 40 games in 2,5 season) and Mersin Idman Yurdu (8 matches). But further back, he hit the ball in England's FC Tottenham, France's Strasbourg, Dijon and Ajaccio, as well as Israel’s Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
