Boxing Championship dedicated to the Azerbaijan Democratic Public’s 100th anniversary will get started held in Baku this Saturday. The project has been organized by the Congress of European Azerbaijanis and supported by the the Gabala Sport Club. The main fight will be in heavy weights. IBO and WBCA world belts matches will bring together Ukrainian Roman Golovashenko and African Kevin Lerena in twelve rounds. Gabala’s Malik Mammadzadeh will come on the canvas for the WCA and WBC Asian belts, as Rauf Aghayev, Vusal Aliyev and some others will fight against Georgian opponents.
Today it was held weighting event and press conference where Haydar Aliyev Boxing Committee President and WBC supervisor Yashar Niftaliyev said this match is of important efforts on disseminating Azerbaijan across the world and “I’m always ready to support to establish this kind of sports in the country”.
Visiting Azerbaijan as a supervisor Filip Verbeke added the tournament should have been in Kazakhstan before the decision was changed. And he’s sure the match will be much pulsating. German Boxing Association delegate and supervisor Matias Aisler valued the organizing processes highly. Golovashenko’s promoter Genadi Kravchenko and coach Shamil Karimov believe in a good result of the challenge. They are sure Roman will beat the opponent with knockout until the sixth round. Kravchenko also thinks positively in his response to their thoughts.
The Ukrainian’s opponent Lerena also believes in his power and his coach says Roman will know him as he tastes his punch on the jaw. Lerena’s promoter Rodni Berman added “nothing will save the Ukrainian on the canvas”.
Azerbaijan’s first professional boxer, World WBF champion and European WBO Champion, First Promotion Champions Director Fariz Mammadov also valued the tournament with a great role in producing professional boxers in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan’s boxer Mammadzadeh said he would be fighting only for victory.
The matches will kick-off at 8:00 pm AZT at the Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Center.
