The 9th tour of the Topaz Premier League is going to be remarkable for head coach Yuri Semin with his Neftchi experience on the closing Friday. The 66-year-old specialist from Russia will meet the team he knows best in Azerbaijan. He faced the squad from Baku for 21 times in his all career as both player and coach.
Now it is going to be his 22nd experience against Neftchi.
The white-black team met Lokomotiv Russia of Semin at Unity Cup on 23rd January 2005, when the Moscow side won the 2:1 victory. Only Rashad Sadygov, the skipper of Neftchi is still playing for the capital city team since that time. The fixture is the first match of Yuri against Neftchi after Azerbaijan regained its independence in 1991. So he came on against the opponents only in the Soviet time.
Semin"s first-ever event against Neftchi as a coach happened in 1982 when, the 35 year-old specialist started to his new career only in September. He spent his last years as a player for Kuban Krasnodar. Then on 11 November, Semin and his team visited Baku when he had to save his team from leaving the Premier League, and they gained the 3:2 victory.
He followed his Pamir career for the next 3 years being off the way against Neftchi.
Semin, worked for Lokomotiv Moscow until 1990 after being named to the skipper for the team in 1986. During the period, the sides met for 4 times. In the 1988 premier league, Semin"s squad won over Neftchi 1:0 in Moscow before gaining just one point in Baku with 1:1. And in 1990, both teams were performing in their domestic premier league tournaments. Semin"s side took victory by 2:1 in Moscow then on 20 April, when there was also Tarlan Ahmadov playing for Neftchi who is going to come against Semin as the Neftchi head coach and with their only tie. The II Round game in Baku, when Ahmadov was off the pitch, ended in 0:0.
Shortly, Semin still is unbeaten for Neftchi in his all 6 experience as a coach against the team of Baku making 4 victories and 2 draws. Before these, Yuri was able to know Neftchi better meeting them much times in Soviet contests. The Russian footballer came on the pitch against Neftchi when he played for Moscow"s Spartak in one match, for Dinamo in 9 games and for Lokomotiv with 2 times. Semin was a rival against the Baku side playing for Kayrat with one time and for Kuban with 2 times.
The midfielder scored 3 goals in all these 15 ties for the teams winning 5 times and making 6 draws. And Neftchi lapped up the plaudits for 4 times.
Yuri made his first-ever visit to Baku with Spartak Moscow 47 years ago when he was 19 years old in 1966. Then in the last tour of the season, the team including Anatoli Banişevski won 3:0 in a match for bronze medals. It was his only encounter against Neftchi in 1965/67 when he played for the Moscow team.
In 1968/71, another club from Moscow, Dinamo, gave really punishment to the white-black side scoring 3 goals, when he was even a forward.
Being off the pitch in Baku in 1968, Semin was a part of a draw in Moscow.
The player of Dinamo was disappointed by Neftchi with 1:2 loss in Baku during 1969 before performing in 2:2 result in Russia. He scored the second of his team but then the team from Baku were able to feed back with 2.
In return, Semin scored the opener for Dinamo in 1969 at 1/16 final to help his team wining 2:0. The Moscow team lapped up the plaudits again for 2;1 victory in Baku in 1970 before making 2:0 in their capital city. Semin scored 3 goals against the Baku side at that II round match.
Dinamo and Neftchi met for 4 times in 1974. Neftchi scored 2 cup goals in away and 4 goals with clean sheet in Baku. League ties ended in draws with Semin only playing at the second match ended goalless.
Playing for Kayrat with the next 2 years, Semin came against Neftchi at only one game. In 1972, the team form Gazakhistan were able to took their home victory at the 2nd round game - 1:0. The midfielder of Lokomotiv in 1975/77 played against Baku for 2 times. He played at both premier league games and ended in goalless draw.
Having his last player years during 1978/80 at Kuban, Yuri came against Neftchi for 2 more times. At both games of 1980, the scoring was opened by Neftchi"s Igor Ponomaryov. But the team including Semin scored 2 goals to win in Krasnodar before making 1:1 in Baku.
