Gabala have won 2:0 over Zira in the Azerbaijan Cup round of 8.
The red-black team started to the away match as the faster side but it was hard to set up pulsating moment against the capital Baku team. Oleksiy Gai”s shot set up threat in the 10th minute when the opponent keeper denied the opener. Ermin Zec also failed to hit the target progressing more into the game minutes.
The sides kept the same course of the game after the restart and Zira backed on the defensive display again. Ermin Zec was off the target from a promising position before setting up Dodo deflected by the keeper. Gabala”s lead was not evident in the course of the match and it forced head coach Roman Grigorchuk to change Zec to Rashad Eyubov. And Sergei Zenjov moved ahead to the forward line. The change led to the opener when Rafael Santos”s header found Gai to finish clinically– 1:0.
Just 2 minutes later, the home side leveled with Nelson Bonilla coming one on one with the keeper. The Ukrainian skipper introduced another change with Stankovic who”s corner found Zenjov to be deflected to Dodo and the latter scored the all-important goal by a superb header.
Now the pair are going to meet again in the return match next Wednesday.
